Australian actor, Heath Ledger, has been found dead in a New York apartment with initial reports suggesting his death is drug related. The Oscar nominated actor was only 28 and was set to give the character of the Joker a new lease of life in this years ‘The Dark Knight’.
Update: So I feel I want to add more to this post marking the passing of what was a fine talent. I still remember Ledger on an Australian TV show ‘Sweat’ from my days of watching ‘The Den’ and his emergence as ‘The Next Big Thing’ on foot of his role in ‘10 Things I Hate About You’. Supporting roles in ‘The Patriot’, ‘Monsters Ball’ and leading duties in ‘A Knights Tale’ earned him notices, however to date he is best known for his Oscar nominated role in ‘Brokeback Mountain’. I plan on seeing ‘I’m Not There’ as soon as possible in which he was amongst 6 actors portraying ‘Bob Dylan’ and currently he was in the process of working with Terry Gilliam, another sign of how he confidently chose to eschew convention, taking part in interesting, eclectic projects. By all accounts he looks set to have reached new levels of success with this summers Batman sequel, his casting and subsequent footage teasing as to the menace he will bring to the role of ‘The Joker’ looks set to introduce a whole new generation to the character. I will review some more of his work in the coming weeks.

A tragic loss. I loved him as an actor. I look forward to the reviews.
