I am taking over the Top Friday role today from CK. So here is my rundown of the top 6 greatest moments in movies where the music and the film blend into shear perfection.
6. From probably the most underrated bond film comes one of the greatest action scenes and musical accompaniment. Who does not think of this scene when they go Skiing?
5. The opening scene of any movie is important and is often neglected by film makers. This opening scene not only sets the tone of the movie, but is iconic. The opening to Trainspotting. With Choose life from iggy pop.
4. No list would be complete without a musical and this is not only the most famous but probably the best. Gene Kelly in singing in the Rain. The rain in this scene is actually milk as water would not be picked up on the camera’s so easily. The song and the dance just capture so well the human emotion of pure joy. It has been years since I saw the movie. But I think it is just after the guy was on a date. He is just so in love and happy that he is singing in the rain.3. The Big Lebowski. Gutterballs. This scene is almost sheer perfection. Who would have thought this trippy song could come from Kenny Rodgers. Accoding to who this was Jemi Hendrix’s favorite track.
2.Instantly recognizable from the opening bar the Rocky.
1. The graveyard at the end of the good bad and the ugly. This movie could fill up most of these places in the list but it can only have one so I guess it has to be number 1. There is many scenes I could pick the duel after this scene is particularly good. But there is just something about the music that highlights the enormity of the grave created by the civil war and the almost youthful innocent as the ugly searches for the grave. The piece is aptly named the “The Ecstasy of gold” and it is by the brilliant Ennio Morricone. Enjoy.
