The One to Watch: ‘Dirty, Sexy, Money’

I’ve seen the first episode of this and remain yet to be convinced. The show has done pretty well Stateside, has been given a second series and has the always reliable Peter Krause on narrator/leading man duties and Donald Sutherland in the standard ’seasoned Hollywood actor turns to TV’ manouevere so popular of late. The premise is this - idealistic young lawyer is compelled to fill his fathers shoes in being the personal lawyer to New York’s richest family, the Darlings. On first impression the dysfunction doesn’t convince or diverge from characters and spoilt rich kid cliches we’ve seen previously. Krauses character seems a little vanilla in comparison to his clients and the wrap up generic narration device popping up in TV shows at the moment is wearing a little thin.  I will revisit the show, there is potential but it will need to work that little bit harder not having convinced me in its pilot episode. If nothing else you can get curtains twitching at the scandal of watching a show called ‘Dirty, Sexy Money’ on Good Friday.

Good Friday, Channel 4, 9pm
