Irish film wins prize at Cannes
‘Hunger’, the new film about the IRA hunger strikers and the last weeks of Bobby Sands’ life, has won the Camera d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Best First Feature.
This RTE article on the win remarks this is the 3rd year an Irish film has received critical acclaim at Cannes with ‘Garage’ and ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ impressing the collected festival goers and jury. Obviously I’m happy to see Irish film makers succeed, however I can’t help but think the triple bill is a bit heavy on misery. What of Irish comedy?
