High drama in French broadcasting, where it seems newsbroadcasters are personalities as much as their American counterparts. This week, a stalwart of Frances most watched news broadcast and indeed Europes most watched news show, has been replaced, the latest twist in the adventures of a man who seems to have made as much news as he may have delivered - constructing fake interviews, smuggling children back from Iraq, jail sentences. Through all this the high ratings for his broadcasts kept his place safe, but now it seems with dwindling viewer numbers he is to be replaced by a 41 year old blonde, aka France’s most glamorous broadcaster. An experienced broadcaster, nevertheless, there is much suggestion she attained her new role by being a favourite of Nicholas Sarkozy, and in the past there have been refuted allegations of a romance between the two. Equally Sarkozy is said to dislike the interview style of the current news anchor, having been referred to as a little boy in one interview. Such events are being described as a tragedy by commentators in France. Maybe things always seem more interesting from a far, but Irish broadcasting doesnt seem to match up to these theatrics. This is the type of silliness I like to read of instead of the muck raked across a hundred covers of OK and Heat. Read more here.
