Too much power for mere mortals?

6 months.

That’s how long I tried to get NTL to fit my house with their television service before I gave up and turned instead to Sky. 3 weeks after making the initial call to Sky I am left wondering why I bothered ringing NTL at all, as the 42” plasma TV in my living room finally boasts the channel package it was built for.

Never in all my years have I come across a customer service so lacking and pitiful as my encounter with NTL.

I digress, this post is a happy post.

As part of my Sky package I decided to go for a Sky Plus box instead of the standard box. It’s the one that Michael Parkinson is salivating over in that new ad; the very simple, pure machine that does away with all that nonsense of “Did I remember to set the record machine” and lets you record a series at the touch of one button.

Utter genius.

Now that’s all fine and good, but as somebody who doesn’t really follow any series (Lost, yes I’m talking to you, you suck!) this particular feature sounds impressive but doesn’t really do it for me in a practical sense. Far more impressive is my new found ability to pause live tv.

Think about that for a second. I can pause and rewind live television people.

Think of the practical implications of this for one second. No longer will I miss aTV highlight through a poorly timed bathroom break. I can now conduct a conversation with whomever instead of asking them to be quiet because I’m missing the action on screen. I can pause and rewatch things on TV just for the heck of it.

Truly, I am a God.
