Or are the all predisposed to have unreasonable affection for romantic comedies, get excited when the hunk du jour takes his shirt off and swoon over a preponderence of foot wear, especially when work during a dance routine.

Certainly, women’s opinions are being kept from the pages of various entertainment sections of print media. The piece of research I link to below describes reviewing as a male dominated activity, with women let out to review in the case of light weight chick flicks - though this is still a rare occurence. Certainly, I know I had to search high and low for a woman who didn’t want to mangle me for my criticism of this years smash hit ‘Sex and the City’. The female population seemed to have a sort of collective taste lobotomy. I ‘know of’ two female movie reviewers - some chick who presents the abominable ‘Take 6′ on Channel 6. Tuathal and I were possibly the first two viewers to ever watch the show a fortnight ago, it still unsettles me in its blandness. I think of Harrison Fords remark to George Lucas when I recall the presenters reading the auto cue to us with android like sterility - ‘You can write this sh*t, but you sure can’t say it’. To be honest the guy is as bad as the girl on that show. Then I was sent a link to a boards.ie discussion wondering who Tara Loughrey Grant was sleeping with that her reviews are let darken the door of the RTE website. Having read some of her reviews, the question earns some justification.

The findings of the research Thumbs Down: The Representation of Women Film Critics in The Top 100 US Daily Newspapers’ found that as of autumn last year, 77% of American film critics were male while only 23% were female. Indeed, 47% of all the newspapers surveyed did not permit women to write film reviews at all. I’m not sure what they mean by ‘do not permit’, though it seems like a smart editorial decision, one not entirely PC though.

Are my hanging out with the wrong women? - are my being unfair in my condemnation of women’s tastes in movies? - the one woman I know who doesn’t like SATC supports the state of Israel so she gives with one hand and takes away wth the other. If I’m wrong let me know, I was taken aback at the universal appreciation of SATC and have yet to be presented with evidence a mature, balanced appreciation of a movie can be made if you chose to let that sort of drivel pillage the taste sensors of your mind.
