  • Eh, millions murdered by which regime in Venezuela?

  • One point I’d like to pick you up on – “The blogosphere craves creditability to be seen as relevant and not just cranks with keyboards”. That’s a MASSIVE generalisation. A tired old cliche that sees bloggers as jittery nerds desperate for recognition and legitimacy. SOME bloggers MAY be motivated by such concerns, but to speak of the “blogosphere” as a whole, a mass entity, is pretty disingenuous. It’s the usual ol’ “Mainstream Media” dismissal – “They’re just sad lonely wannabe journos!”. Yawn! I thought “we” were past that.

SOME bloggers may have overstated the seriousness of this (with reference to draconian states etc) but that doesn’t mean that the situation didn’t (and doesn’t) warrant a response. There’s undoubtedly hyeprbole out there, but there’s also plenty of genuine anger from reasonable and intelligent people.
